Prep Time: 10-15 minutes
Cook Time: 40 or so, this will depend on the type of fruit you pick
6 C. fruit, fresh or frozen, chopped and peeled
1/3 C. brown sugar
1/3 C. white sugar
1/4 C. all-purpose flour or corn starch
1 tsp. cinnamon (optional, depending on the fruit you pick)
1/4 tsp. nutmeg (optional, depending on the fruit you pick)
1/4 tsp. salt
1 tsp. vanilla
4 T. heavy cream, half, and half, milk or 1/2 a juice from a lemon
4 T. butter (optional, this adds more flavor)
1 C. oats
1/2 C. butter, cut into pieces
1/3 brown sugar or white sugar
1/2 cup flour
What to do:
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
Place fruit in a baking dish, the size will vary depending on the fruit you pick out. Mix sugar and flour together (also cinnamon and nutmeg if using) and sprinkle over fruit. Add vanilla and milk, stir to combine, dot with butter pieces if using.
Mix oats, flour, and brown sugar together in a medium bowl. Add butter pieces and mix to combine until mixture is crumbly. Spread over fruit mixture.
Bake in preheated oven for 40 minutes or so, this will depend on what fruit you choose or until fruit mixture is thick and the topping is golden brown. If you’re topping is getting to brown place a piece of tinfoil on top. Serve warm with a scoop of your favorite ice cream.
Possible Add-ins for filling or topping: Caramel chunks, chocolate chips, nuts, caramel and chocolate sauce for some drizzle on top. Don’t forget to mix up the fruit; pears and blueberries, apples and caramel, apples and pears, mix berries, peaches, and blueberries, etc. Keep in mind that when fruit is not as ripe or are harder the long it will take to cook.
