Serves: 4-6
Ingredients:
2 pizza dough balls, store bought or make your own go to www.cooknwithmrsg.com
1 jar marinara sauce or make your own go to www.cooknwithmrsg.com
1 lb. bacon chopped
1 lb. bulk sausage
2 medium onions chopped
2 (8 oz.) pkg of fresh mushrooms
Salt and pepper to taste
8 T. butter divided in half
4 T. oil
2 C. sliced olives, I used green olives
2 C. mozzarella cheese
Parmesan cheese
Italian seasoning
Garlic powder
What to do:
Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
Lightly coat two cookie sheets with cooking spray.
Heat butter and oil on medium high heat in a large skillet, add sliced onions and mushrooms, cook on high heat for about 10 minutes, constantly stirring. Add your salt and pepper; the onions should start to brown, but without burning. Continue to cook until they are golden brown and caramelized. Place in bowl and set aside.
Cook your sausage and bacon in a medium skillet until browned. Drain on paper towels and crumble into small pieces.
Roll dough out thin to form a large rectangle, about the size of your cookie sheet. Brush a thin layer of marinara sauce on dough. Layer on your crumbled sausage, bacon, olives, onions, mushrooms then mozzarella cheese.
Starting on long side of dough, carefully start rolling until you reach the opposite end. Pinch together and place seam side down. Brush the top of the rolls with the melted butter. Sprinkle with Parmesan, Italian seasoning and garlic powder.
Bake for approximately 30 minutes or until golden brown. Remove from oven and let rest for 10 minutes.
Test center of Stromboli. If dough is not completely cooked, slice Stromboli in half and bake for additional 5-8 minutes.
Serve with warm marinara sauce.
