The process is pretty easy. Each of the tubes are flattened, cut into 1 inch segments of different lengths, and then spray-painted white (or whatever color you prefer). The different size loops are hot glued together to make the snowflake shape.
What you’ll need:
Paper towel or toilet rolls to provide segments.
Ruler
Pencil
Scissors
Hot glue gun
Paper clips
Spay paint (the color is up to you) I did white
To make the big snowflake:
Step 1: Flatten each toilet paper or paper towel roll and mark off 1 inch segments along both sides of its length or the thickness you prefer with a sharpened pencil. Cut across the roll to make 54 pointed oval (marquise) segments.
Step 2: You will leave 24 whole (do not cut) and cut 6 of the segments into in half so you will have 12 half pieces, these segments will have one folded end and one cut (open) end.
Step 3: Then take 6 segments and cut 3/4 down the segment. You will use the big and small part of this segment. Each segment will have one folded end and one cut (open) end.
Step 4: You will then cut 1/4 off of each end of the rest of the segments. (On both ends) You will disregard the center, we won’t be using those, and you should have 36 pieces. They will have one folded end and one cut (open) end.
Step 4: The fun part!!!! Start gluing your pieces together, you can use paper clips to help keep everything together but I found that the hot glue sets up pretty fast. It’s much earlier to follow the picture as a guide as well.
Step 5: Once you have your snowflake done and the glue is set up, spray paint and let dry.
Christina’s Notes:
Once you get the hang of this let your imagination go wild. You can cut your segments into 1/2 pieces like the small one below and create big and little snowflakes. By adding glitter and sparkles, you’re sure to have one of a kind.

what do you recommend for spray paint? i tried to spray paint a few flowers, and the cardboard got wet and ultimately lost their shape because the paint was too heavy.

Kristin, I spray my snowflakes with light layers of paint. Let them dry completely in-between coats. That way they don’t get so wet and saturated.Hope this helps you.
