This hamburger gravy recipe represents an exemplar of culinary simplicity, utilizing commonplace ingredients to create an affordable and prompt dining solution. It embodies a classic comfort dish that promises to satisfy the whole family.
Prep Time: 5 minutes
Cook Time: 15 minutes
Serves: 4
Ingredients:
1 lb. ground beef, ground venison or ground chicken
1/2 C. butter
1/2 C. flour
1 T. Worcestershire sauce
3 C cold beef broth
1 C. cold milk
1 T. onion powder
1 tsp. garlic powder
1 tsp. Dijon mustard
Salt and pepper
Juices from meat, option (add a teaspoon or two of any meat juices)
What to do:
In a large fry pan over medium-high heat, salt and pepper the meat and cook until it is lightly browned and crumbly. Remove from heat and sprinkle flour over the cooked hamburger. Stir until evenly coated and all the fat is absorbed. Place back on the heat and add butter, onion powder, garlic powder, mustard, and Worcestershire sauce. Stir them together enough to fully combine. Whisk in the cold beef broth, milk, and any meat juices that you might have. Bring the gravy to a boil while whisking. Reduce heat to low and simmer for 5-7 minutes until it reaches the consistency you like. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Serve over mashed potatoes, rice, or homemade noodles, garnish with chives or parsley.
Christina’s Notes:
Sometimes I like to add a can of mushroom soup or peas, fresh, canned, or frozen.
