Prep Time: 10 minutes
Cook Time: 25 minutes
Serves: 3-4
Ingredients:
2 T. of oil
2 lbs. of ground beef or ground turkey
1/2 whole large onion, diced
1 whole large green bell pepper, diced
5 cloves of garlic, minced
1, 1/2 C. of BBQ sauce (whatever BBQ your family enjoys)
1/2 C. ketchup
2 tsp. chili powder
1/2 tsp. red pepper flakes (more if you prefer)
2 T. Worcestershire sauce
3 T. tomato paste
2 to 3 T. Tabasco sauce
Salt to taste
Freshly ground black pepper, to taste
2 C. sharp cheddar cheese, optional
24 dinner rolls
What to do:
Preheat oven to 400 degrees.
Add oil to a large skillet or Dutch oven over medium-high heat. Add ground beef or turkey and cook until brown. Drain most of the fat and discard. Add onions, green pepper, and garlic and cook for a few minutes, or until vegetables begin to get soft.
Add BBQ sauce, ketchup, chili pepper and red pepper flakes. Stir to combine and simmer for 15 minutes, adding salt and pepper to taste. Then add tomato paste, Worcestershire, and Tabasco. Taste and adjust seasoning as needed. Separate the dinner rolls in half and place one scoop of sloppy Joe on the bottom roll. Top with mozzarella, cheddar, provolone or any topping you wish. Place the top roll on and push down slightly. Place meatball slider on a large cookie sheet or pan and continue to assemble the rest of the sliders. Toast in oven for 8-10 minutes or until toasted and cheese is melty.
Christina’s Notes:
If you feel the sauce is a little too watery (I like mine really thick) in a small cup add a mixture of equal water and flour (roux), mix this well. Add a tablespoon at a time to the Sloppy Joes until you get the right consistency.
