Step by step!
I am having more fun with the birdies this winter in the new house. One of my favorite things is sitting at the kitchen table enjoying my breakfast and watching the birds outside. You have to give these super simple and “birdie yummylicious ” Pine Cone bird feeders a go. I’m sure you remember making these as a kid. These are a great way to use up some of our nature finds and left over stale items in your kitchen.
What you’ll need:
Pinecones
String for hanging
Bird seed
Leftover cereal (I usually have stale Cheerios)
Any leftover stale fruit, nuts, oyster crackers, oats
1-2 cups peanut butter, lard or both. The amount will depend on how many pinecones you use.
What to do:
In a deep bowl melt your peanut butter, lard or both if you desire. Set aside to cool.
Tie your string onto your pinecone, make sure its very secure.
In another deep bowl add your seed and/ or other ingredients you might use from above.
Dip your pinecone into the peanut butter mixture then into the seed. Take some seed and squash it into the pinecone crevices. Set a side to allow the peanut butter, and\or lard to set up. This won’t take long, 10 to 15 minutes. Now your ready to decorate your outdoor tree!
