Bourbon Chicken was supposedly named because it was created by a Chinese cook who worked in a restaurant on Bourbon Street. Technically, there isn’t any bourbon in it, although I do throw some in from time to time. 😁
Prep Time: 5 minutes
CookTime: 30 minutes
Serves: 4
Ingredients:
2 lbs boneless chicken breasts, cut into bite-size pieces
1 -2 tablespoon cooking oil
2 garlic clove, minced
1/2 teaspoon ginger
1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes, more if you want it spicier
1/2 cup apple juice
2/3 cup brown sugar
1/4 cup ketchup
2 tablespoon vinegar
1 cup water
2/3 cup soy sauce
Thickener
2 teaspoon cornstarch
2 tablespoon water
What to do:
Make your thickener and set it aside.
Heat oil in a large skillet.
Add the chicken pieces and cook until lightly browned. Then, add the garlic and cook until fragrant, being careful not to burn it.
Add remaining ingredients, execpt the thinkener, heating over medium heat until well mixed and dissolved.
Bring to a hard boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 20 minutes, or until the sauce has reduced to the desired consistency. If it’s still not thick enough, add the thickener a little at a time, and cook for 2-3 minutes.
Serve with rice, noodles, and vegetables to make it a meal.
