This quick and easy sausage dinner gets its flavor from the combination of sausage, apples, cabbage, and apple juice. It creates a hearty dish that is perfect for busy weeknights or casual get-togethers.
Ingredients:
1 Tbsp. olive oil
6 sausage links (about 1 1/2 pounds total)
2 apples, halved or quartered
1/2 onion, sliced
1/2 head cabbage, sliced
Salt and pepper to taste
1 cup apple juice
2 Tbsp. cider vinegar, white wine vinegar, or regular white vinegar
What to do:
Heat up some oil in a big cast-iron skillet on medium-high. Toss in the sausage and cook it. Turn it around every now and then. Cook until it’s nice and golden brown, about 6 to 8 minutes. Then move it to a plate.
Reduce heat to medium and add the apples, cut-sides down, this will creating a delightful base. Scatter the onion and crispy cabbage around the apples, infusing the dish with flavor. Season with salt and pepper. Enjoy the process as you cook. Stir the onion occasionally. Cook until the apples turn a beautiful golden brown in just 3 to 4 minutes.
Flip the apples. Return the sausages to the skillet, tucking them in among the vegetables. Pour in the juice and vinegar. Let everything simmer. Rotate and turn the sausages occasionally. Cook until the sausages are perfectly cooked. Make sure the apples are tender, about 18 to 20 minutes.
